ESRIC and the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics and Bioengineering at Heriot-Watt University were very pleased to be involved in the "Celebrating Science Careers Day" at Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh on Monday the 23rd of March. The event, led by the director of Science Hermione Cockburn, brought together scientists from all disciplines in research as well as representatives from The Royal College of Chemists, EuSci and NHS Lothian. The day was designed to give 180 pupils aged 11-16 years old an insight into all things science and the career paths to get there.
Alison Dun and Deirdre Kavanagh (PDRA at Heriot-Watt University) got to show off some of the great work going on within the institute in fluorescent microscopy and speak to some very inquisitive pupils from schools across the county. Heriot-Watt was also represented on the day by a group of researchers from the School of Life Sciences; Leagh Powell, Theadora Mantso, Valentina Ricottone, Danai Patsiou and Dr Ana Catarino demonstrated their work in nanomaterials.
