Edinburgh Super-Resolution Imaging Consortium

Networks

With the support of UKRI and BioImagingUK, ESRIC has joined Euro-BioImaging as part of the UK node which contains seven facilities comprising ESRIC, the Francis Crick Institute, King’s College London, the Univesity of Liverpool, OCTOPUS, Oxford Brookes University and the University of York.

Euro-BioImaging is a European landmark research infrastructure that offers open access to imaging technologies, training, and data services in biological and biomedical imaging that researchers may not have access to in their own institutions. All scientists, regardless of their affiliation, area of expertise or field of activity can benefit from these pan-European open-access services, which are provided with high-quality standards by leading imaging facilities.

ESRIC is the only UK node specifically focused on super-resolution microscopy, allowing researchers to address biological questions at the nanoscale. By expanding its collaborative network across Europe, ESRIC hopes to drive cross-disciplinary innovation and discovery through the sharing of resources and expertise. By welcoming European researchers from different fields, ESRIC will be able to tackle complex problems and make breakthrough discoveries in a broad range of scientific areas.

ESRIC has strong links with networks of microscopy (Scottish Microscopy Society, Royal Microscopical Society, BioImagingUK) and life science (Scottish Universities Life Science Alliance) research across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

ESRIC Funding

We would like to thank the funding bodies and charities that have provided funding over the years for the founding of ESRIC, the purchase of our cutting-edge microscopy systems, and the organisation of our training and engagement activities.

Since 2019, ESRIC has partnered with the RS MacDonald Charitable Trust to provide bursaries for access to our super resolution imaging capabilities. These bursaries enable early career researchers in Scotland working on neurodegenerative or neurodevelopmental disease research to produce data for publications/theses or for leveraging further funding. See below for details of the projects we have funded to date.

ESRIC has worked with a broad range of industry partners, including manufacturers of super-resolution microscopy systems and accessories. These partners have most notably run hands-on workshops at our annual Super-Resolution Summer School, but we have also to worked together to organise additional events.
